WeChat Pay questions merchants ask

How does a WeChat Pay transaction work?

The customer pays in RMB from their Chinese bank account or WeChat balance at the real-time exchange rate. The funds are settled to you in Canadian dollars. You never handle foreign currency.

When do I receive the money?

T+2, which means two business days after the transaction.

Does the exchange rate move between the sale and the settlement?

No. The rate is locked when the customer pays, so the amount you see at the till is the amount you are settled, minus the service fee.

Are there chargebacks on WeChat Pay?

No. WeChat Pay and Alipay payments behave like debit transactions. In the rare case of fraud, the consumer is responsible for safeguarding their own account.

Do I pay a fee on refunds?

No. When you refund a WeChat Pay transaction, the service fee on that transaction is waived in full.

Do I need a Chinese bank account or a WeChat account?

No. AlphaPay holds the WeChat Pay merchant relationship on your behalf. You only need a Canadian business and a Canadian bank account to be settled into.
